Fresno Irrigation District was selected for another round of funding through two USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) programs – the EQIP WaterSMART Initiative and Groundwater Recharge Pilot program. This is the final year of this special funding opportunity available exclusively to FID growers. The deadline to apply is November 6, 2026.

Tips for Submitting a Competitive Application

On October 19, 2026, FID in collaboration with NRCS held an informational webinar to help growers learn about the funding opportunities and prepare their applications. Here are five key takeaways from the webinar to help you get started on your application.

  1. Start the process early. The preparation and application itself takes time, so get started as soon as possible to allow enough time to complete the application and gather the required information before the November 6th deadline.

  2. Have a project design and quote ready for your proposed project to improve your application ranking. Preparing these materials in advance will strengthen your application. Applications without a design and quote rank lower during the selection process.

  3. Include meters with telemetry and soil moisture sensors with your application. These items can be included alongside your other selected practices. Including multiple eligible practices will make your application more desirable.

  4. Strengthen your application with direct assistance from NRCS. Stop by the NRCS Fresno office to work with a conservationist on your application. NRCS staff can help you complete the application and identify ways to make it more competitive.

  5. Learn from previous applications to strengthen this year's submittal. If your previous application was not selected for funding, contact NRCS to understand why and identify opportunities to strengthen your application for this year.
